PCL Signs Contracts for Capacity Expansion of Its Facility

Karachi. Pak Chromical Limited (PCL) signs contracts with two firms in China for the development of equipment and knowhow for its future silica business. This will addition of significant capacity to its existing plant will enable PCL to expand its position in Pakistan and Asia in for manufacturing Silica products.

Bilal Elahi, Director of the Executive Board, said, "With our plant operating at high utilization levels, these investments will enable us to maintain our position as a leader in the detergent filler industry and to offer our customers new premium products with the security of reliable supply and availability that they have come to expect from PCL. “

PCL will add approximately 7,000 metric tons of capacity through an expansion at its facility in Dhabeji, Pakistan. The new capacity will serve the increasing Silica demand locally and in Southeast Asia, which is growing at four to five percent per year. PCL anticipates that product from this expansion will be available for sale starting in late 2017 or early 2018.

Silica are small particles based on silicon dioxide. Depending on the surface structure, they have a significant influence on the final product characteristics. Production is strongly technology-driven and thus ensures intensive and lasting customer relationships. The manufacturing process is independent from oil-based raw materials and therefore well-suited to PCL’s sustainable business strategy

PCL is one of the largest family-owned businesses in Pakistan currently producing household detergents and associated products. It was founded in 1992 by Maqsood Elahi, who led the largest tannery in Pakistan during the 1960’s and 70’s. Today, the company has a broad product portfolio ranging from detergent fillers, foam boosters to organic Shampoo Base (SLES).
